Parents Play it Safe for 2010

The safety of your kids during the 2010 Soccer World Cup is as much a concern for you as it is for us. That is why Mr Price and RedCap Foundation teamed up with strategic partners to make their stores "Safe Places" where easily identifiable "go-to" people will be ready to take care of kids who’ve been separated from parents or feel vulnerable.

Mr Price stores countrywide have been declared “Safe Places” during the busy period of the Soccer World Cup. The Development House, Open Door, RedCap Foundation, eThekwini Municipality and the Provincial Department of Social Development urge parents to prepare and protect South Africa’s precious children and youth during this time.

The partners of the Safe Place campaign appeal to parents to do their part to protect their children and to read informative material that is being distributed by Mr Price stores, in the press and on radio, pointing out logo’s and signage so that youngsters know exactly where to go and who to approach for help.

Mr Price is also providing a number of extremely useful safety tips for both parents and children – useful guides that will not only train all family members to avoid the penalties of being unprepared, but make safe fun their goal during this and other major events to come.

KIDS ARE PRICE-LESS CAMPAIGN

Investing in our children's early childhood development is investing in our future RedCap Foundation and Mr Price Group have partnered with UNICEF (United Nations Children's Emergency Fund) to raise funds for UNICEF's Early Childhood Development Programme as well as RedCap Foundation projects.

This partnership will involve a range of products to be sold in the Mr Price Group stores under the 'Kids are Priceless' campaign.

GEAR UP OUR KIDS

Launched in December 2007, the Gear up our Kids campaign has been very successful in encouraging the public to donate used sporting equipment at Mr Price Group stores. With the help of Greater Good SA, donated goods are distributed to selected non-profit organizations involved in sports development throughout SA.

This year’s campaign, made possible in partnership with Lets Play was successfully run at Mr Price Sport and Mr Price Apparel. More than 11 000 units to the (replacement) value of R800 000 were donated and distributed to needy organizations.

Reports from the organizations show that there is a huge need for sporting equipment in low-income communities.
“The impact of this donation cannot be measured, Children now have a choice – they have an alternative to drugs, gangs and alcohol” says Mr L Pinetown of Hands On! Community organization. Click here for more stories from beneficiaries.

Look-out for our next campaign to be launched in January 2010 and be part of making a difference. Children have so much energy and enthusiasm – they just need the equipment!
