Friday, October 15th 2010 - Mr Price’s Red Cap Foundation made contact with Girls & Boys Town for a Do-it Day project at Glenwood Family Home in Kwazulu-Natal. The project was completed on 15 October 2010.
What was the need for the day? An upgrade of the youth recreation area – painting, removing & replacing carpet tiles, repairing & replacing sport equipment.
What specific skills did you ask for? Painting, laying of carpet tiles, energy & enthusiasm!
How did it go? Beautifully! A huge difference in the recreation area was noticeable very quickly.
How many people volunteered on the day? 19 committed employees of Mr Price Head Office. They were pided into work teams and given group tasks to complete, including shopping and catering!
What was achieved by the volunteers? The recreation area was given a complete face-lift with a fresh coat of paint. Old carpet tiles were removed and new ones glued on. There was great camaraderie between volunteers, youth and staff. A round robin challenge was held with 3 competitions in pool, table tennis and darts. The project created opportunities for youth to interact with people outside of their social sphere, in a constructive and enjoyable manner, which was beneficial for their growth & development.

Did your organization’s experience match your expectations? Very much so and even exceeded expectations! Further offers of assistance from the Foundation were made with regard to home ware and décor, to convert the recreation area & Home into a comfortable, inviting space for youth.
Do you have any other comments, or thanks to volunteers? It was a wonderful privilege for us to have the Mr Price employees complete this project at Glenwood Home. We thank them for their energy & giving spirit, and tackling the task head-on! We are very grateful for their time & interest in our cause and the possibilities of future projects & partnerships.
