Inspiring Tommorrow's Heroes

RedCap Foundation, Mondi South Africa and KZN Department of Education announced their partnership to deliver the YoungHeroes (Physical Education) programme in five rural schools in Richmond. Illovo Nek Primary, Lynwood Primary, Bryne Primary, St Bernard Primary and Ridgley Primary are the beneficiaries of the programme in this area.

YoungHeroes is designed to develop a passion for physical activity and regular exercise among young children. It fits within the Department of Education’s learning outcomes four of the Life Orientation curriculum in SA. The one year cluster model suitable for rural primary schools was developed. In this model, a qualified professional coach is placed in the community throughout the year and spends one day per week in each school. He coaches and imparts knowledge to teachers on the facilitation of Physical Education and structured play for young children.

Speaking at the launch, KZN MEC for Education, Mr Senzo Mchunu thanked RedCap Foundation and Mondi for their collaboration in making a difference in the lives of children in rural communities and for bringing such programmes in rural schools. He also encouraged educators to embrace the programme as it also benefits them while benefiting children.
